Water Softener Repair in Las Vegas
When hard water comes back, the unit is usually still running. Something in the regeneration cycle has stopped doing its job. The repair starts with finding which part, not with replacing the whole system.

Worth having ready
- Which fixtures are affected, and whether anything else behaves differently
- When it started, and whether it is getting worse
- Roughly how old the house is, which narrows the likely pipe material
Most water softener repairs in Las Vegas come down to four things: a control valve that is not cycling, a brine tank that is not drawing, resin that is past its life, or a leak at the bypass. A hardness test plus a manual regeneration tells us which one before anything is replaced.
Symptoms
What a failing softener looks like
- Spotting and scale are back even though the tank has salt in it
- The salt level has not dropped in weeks
- A solid crust of salt bridged across the brine tank
- The unit runs a regeneration cycle constantly, or never
- Water pooling under the unit or weeping at the bypass
- Salty tasting water at the tap after a cycle
Scope
What a repair visit covers
What is included
- Hardness test before and after, so the fault is measured not guessed
- Manual regeneration to watch the cycle the unit actually runs
- Control valve inspection: motor, piston, seals and spacers
- Brine tank check for bridging, mush and a blocked injector
- Resin bed assessment against the age and history of the unit
- A written repair or replace recommendation with the reasoning
What is not included
- Manufacturer warranty claims, which have to go through the warranty holder
- Rebuilding a unit where parts are no longer produced
- Drinking water units at the sink, which are diagnosed separately
Process
How the diagnosis runs
Measure first
A hardness test at the tap confirms whether the unit is actually passing hard water or the complaint is something else on the line.
Force a cycle
A manual regeneration shows the valve moving through its positions and the brine draw working. Most faults are visible in that one cycle.
Isolate the part
Valve, injector, brine line, float or resin. Each has a different failure signature and a different cost.
Quote repair against replace
On an older unit the repair is sometimes the wrong spend. You get both numbers and the reasoning, then you decide.
Repair and retest
Parts fitted, cycle run again, hardness retested so the fix is confirmed with a number.
Why softeners fail faster here
A softener in Las Vegas works harder than the same unit in a city with moderate water. At 17 grains per gallon it moves more hardness per cycle and regenerates more often, and every cycle is wear on the valve seals and the injector.
That is why a unit that was fine for years can start passing hard water without any obvious event. The usual answer is not a dead system, it is a worn control valve or a resin bed that has finally run out of exchange capacity.
Salt bridging, the one you can check yourself
A salt bridge is a hard crust that forms across the brine tank with an empty gap underneath. The tank looks full, so nobody adds salt and nobody suspects the unit, but no brine is being drawn and no regeneration is happening.
Push a broom handle gently into the salt. If it hits a hard shelf and then breaks through into open space, that is a bridge. Breaking it up and letting the tank draw properly sometimes solves the complaint on its own.
When repair stops making sense
Resin has a working life, and a control valve can be rebuilt only so many times. On a unit that is well into its second decade, a valve rebuild often buys a year and then the resin goes.
We give you the repair cost and the replacement cost in the same conversation, including what each one is likely to buy in service life. Neither number is useful on its own.
On pricing: we have not published price ranges on this site, because a range we cannot stand behind is worse than no range. Scope and price go in writing before any work starts.
Straight answers
Fair questions about this work
Is it worth repairing an old softener?
Sometimes. A valve part on an otherwise healthy unit is a sensible repair. The same part on a unit with exhausted resin is money spent twice, and we will say so.
My salt never goes down. Is that good?
It is usually the opposite. Salt that never drops normally means the unit is not regenerating, often because of a bridge or a brine draw fault.
Can you work on the brand I have?
We service the common brands. We are not an authorised dealer for any manufacturer, so if your unit is still in warranty, start with the warranty holder before paying for a repair.

Water Softener Repair questions
Why is my water hard again when the softener has salt?
Salt in the tank does not prove the unit is using it. A salt bridge, a blocked injector or a control valve that is not cycling all leave a full looking tank and hard water at the tap.
What is salt bridging?
A hard crust of salt spanning the brine tank with an air gap underneath. The tank looks full but no brine is drawn, so regeneration fails silently.
How long does softener resin last?
Resin life depends on hardness, chlorine exposure and how much water the household uses. Very hard water like the Las Vegas supply works resin harder than average, so it is assessed against the unit history rather than a fixed number.
Why does my water taste salty?
Usually a regeneration cycle that is not rinsing properly, often a blocked drain line or injector. It is a repair, not something to live with.
Do you repair softeners you did not install?
Yes. Most softener repair calls are on units installed by somebody else.
