How a repair visit runs
Reproduce the symptom
We want to see it happen. A fault described on the phone and a fault observed are often two different problems.
Work outward from the fixture
If one fixture is affected, the cause is usually local. If several are, the cause is upstream and replacing fixtures will not touch it.
Test rather than assume
Pressure at the bib, flow at the fixture, and the meter with everything closed. Three checks that settle most diagnoses.
Quote in writing
Scope, parts and price before anything is dismantled. If the diagnosis opens up into something larger, you approve that separately.

Low pressure is usually not the pipes
Whole house low pressure in a valley home most often traces to the pressure regulator, which is a serviceable part with a finite life, not to the pipework. Pressure at a single fixture is nearly always a blocked aerator or cartridge.
Hard water is why both of those are so common here. At 17 grains per gallon, scale builds inside aerators and cartridges steadily, and a fixture that lost pressure gradually over a year is usually telling you about mineral buildup rather than a plumbing fault.
Age of the house narrows it quickly
Homes in the older central valley postcodes can still have galvanised steel supply lines, which corrode from the inside and reduce flow as they age. In that housing stock, low pressure plus discoloured water after the taps have sat is a recognisable pattern.
Newer construction across the outer valley is generally copper or PEX, where the same complaint points somewhere else entirely, usually the regulator or a fixture.
Repairs we recommend against
Patching a section of supply line that is failing along its whole length is throwing money at a repeat visit. Where the honest answer is repiping a run rather than repairing a hole, we will say so and give you both numbers.
The same applies to a fixture that has been repaired twice. A third cartridge in a valve body that is worn is a service call you will make again.

For a known part swap sometimes. For a symptom with more than one possible cause, a phone quote is a guess, and a guess that turns into a bigger invoice is exactly what people hate.
Will you cut into my walls?
Only when the diagnosis requires it, and we tell you before rather than after. Access cuts are made where they are cheapest to close up.
Do you fix work someone else did?
Yes, and it is a large share of repair calls. We will tell you plainly what we find without making a performance of it.

Why is my water pressure low all over the house?
Most often the pressure regulator, which is a wearing part with a limited life. Whole house symptoms point upstream of the fixtures, so replacing taps will not change it.
Why is only one tap slow?
Usually a scaled aerator or a worn cartridge. Very hard Las Vegas water builds mineral deposits in both, and an aerator can often be cleaned rather than replaced.
What is the banging noise when I turn a tap off?
Water hammer, caused by moving water stopping suddenly. It is sometimes fixed with an arrestor, and sometimes it points at a pressure problem worth measuring.
Do you charge to diagnose?
Pricing is confirmed when you call. What we will not do is start work before you have the scope and the number in writing.
