How a swap runs
Confirm it is the right call
We check whether a repair genuinely has life left in it first. A replacement recommendation should survive that question.
Resize, do not assume
Household use changes. The replacement is sized to the house as it is now, against a current hardness test, not against whatever the last unit was.
Check the existing tie-in
Supply, bypass and drain get inspected before the new unit arrives. Reusable plumbing is what keeps the price down, but only where it is sound.
Swap and program
Old unit out, new unit in, regeneration set to measured hardness.
Test and document
Hardness tested after, the settings written down, and the bypass and salt routine explained.
Why the second unit is usually cheaper
On a first installation a good share of the cost is getting water and a drain to the right place. On a replacement that work is already done, so what you are buying is the unit, the labour to swap it, and any worn fittings that should not go back into service.
That is only true when the existing tie-in is sound. A corroded bypass or a drain line that never had a proper air gap gets corrected during the swap, and we show you why before it goes on the quote.
Resize, because the old size may have been wrong
A lot of softeners in the valley were sized to national averages rather than to 17 grain per gallon water. If the outgoing unit regenerated constantly and still let hardness through, it was undersized, and fitting the same capacity again repeats the mistake.
A fresh grain-load calculation takes a few minutes and is the difference between a unit that copes and one that is behind from day one.

Can I reuse my old brine tank?
Sometimes, if it is intact and the new valve is compatible. It is usually a small part of the cost and a cracked tank is not worth carrying forward.
Will you try to sell me a replacement when a repair would do?
You get both numbers and the expected service life of each. If the repair is the better spend, that is what the quote says.
How long is the house without water?
The supply is off only for the swap itself, which is a short part of the visit on a straightforward tie-in.

How long do water softeners last?
Service life depends on water hardness, use and maintenance. Very hard water like the Las Vegas supply works a unit harder than average, so local units tend to reach the repair or replace decision sooner than the same model elsewhere.
Is replacement cheaper than the first install?
Usually, because the supply tie-in and the drain already exist. The saving disappears if the existing plumbing is corroded or was never done correctly.
Can you match the size of my old unit?
We can, but we would rather size it to a current test. Plenty of existing units in the valley were undersized for 17 grain water to begin with.
Do you take the old unit away?
Yes, removal and disposal of the unit being replaced is part of the job.
