Drain cleaning uses cabling for a discrete blockage and hydro jetting for lines coated with grease or scale. When a drain has backed up more than once, a camera inspection is what separates a recurring obstruction from a structural fault in the line.

How a drain call runs
Map the symptom
Which fixtures are affected and in what order tells us roughly how far down the blockage sits before any tool comes out.
Find the access
Clearing through a proper cleanout is faster and safer than pulling a toilet. Many valley homes have one, and it is worth knowing where.
Cable or jet
A single obstruction cables clear. A line that has narrowed along its length needs jetting, and cabling it just punches a hole through the buildup.
Camera when it repeats
A second blockage in the same line is a reason to look rather than to clear it again. Roots, a belly, a crack or a bad joint all look identical from the fixture.
Report honestly
If the line needs repair rather than cleaning, you get that with the camera footage rather than an open ended cleaning schedule.
Cabling and jetting are not interchangeable
A cable bores through a blockage. That is exactly right for a discrete obstruction, and it restores flow quickly. What it does not do is remove the layer of grease or scale coating the pipe wall, so a line that was narrowing before the blockage is still narrowing after.
Hydro jetting uses high pressure water to strip that layer back toward the original bore. It is the correct tool for a kitchen line under years of grease, and the wrong tool for a line whose walls are too fragile to take it, which is part of why the camera matters.
Why the same drain keeps blocking
A drain that blocks repeatedly is almost never bad luck. It is usually roots at a joint, a section that has sagged and holds water, a crack collecting debris, or a partial collapse.
None of those are cleaning problems, and clearing them on a schedule is paying rent on a fault. A camera run turns that into a decision with a cost attached.
On chemical drain cleaners
They are worth a mention because they cause real harm. Caustic products sit against a blockage and against the pipe, they rarely clear a substantial obstruction, and they turn the eventual mechanical clearing into a job with corrosive liquid standing in the line.
If you have already used one, say so when you call. It changes how the work is approached and it is a safety matter for whoever opens the line.

Can I just use a store product?
On a slow single fixture, sometimes. On a real blockage they usually fail and leave caustic liquid sitting in the line for whoever opens it next.
Is jetting going to damage my pipes?
It is matched to the condition of the line, which is part of why a camera is used on older or repeatedly blocked drains before jetting.
Do I need a camera every time?
No. A first time blockage usually just needs clearing. A repeat is a different conversation.
