How the valley is actually organised

Clark County confuses people, and the confusion is reasonable. Five incorporated cities sit inside it: Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City and Mesquite. Everything else is unincorporated, and several of the largest communities in the region, including Paradise, Spring Valley, Sunrise Manor, Enterprise and Winchester, are unincorporated townships rather than cities.

That matters more than it sounds. A property with a Las Vegas postal address is frequently not in the city of Las Vegas at all, which changes which jurisdiction handles permitting and which utility supplies the water. When you tell us where you are, the postcode is usually more useful than the city on your post.

Why we organise these pages by build era

The single most useful thing to know before diagnosing a plumbing fault here is when the house was built, because that decides what the pipes are made of.

The oldest housing in the region is in Boulder City, purpose built in the early 1930s for Hoover Dam workers. Central Las Vegas and the original Henderson townsite carry mid century and wartime era stock. Sunrise Manor went up largely between the 1960s and 1980s. Spring Valley and Green Valley are 1980s and 1990s. Summerlin, Enterprise and Aliante are 1990s and 2000s onward.

Galvanised steel corrodes from the inside and chokes flow. Copper develops pinholes along a whole run. PEX is generally durable but unforgiving of bad fittings. Each area page below leads with what that community was built with, because that is what narrows the diagnosis fastest.

Different water utilities, the same river

The Las Vegas Valley Water District serves the city of Las Vegas and much of the unincorporated valley. North Las Vegas, Henderson and Boulder City each run their own systems.

All of them draw from the same Colorado River supply through Lake Mead, which is why hardness is a valley wide condition rather than a city specific one. Around 90 percent of Southern Nevada drinking water comes from Lake Mead. We cite the published hardness figure to the Las Vegas Valley Water District because that is the district that publishes it, and we test at your tap rather than assuming a district average.

What we do not claim about coverage

We have not listed an office, a branch or a response time for any of these communities, and we have not put a map pin on a virtual address in each one. Doing that is the standard way local service websites manufacture geographic relevance, and it is dishonest.

We are a service area business covering the valley. The areas listed here are the ones we cover. The outlying parts of Clark County, including Mesquite, Laughlin and the Moapa Valley, are 80 miles or more from the valley and are deliberately not listed, because we have not confirmed coverage there and would rather tell you that than take the enquiry.
