Process
How fixture work is sequenced
Confirm the fixture before rough in
Different models need different supply and drain positions. Roughing in before the fixture is chosen is how walls get opened twice.
Set the rough in
Supply and drain positioned to the fixture specification, with the drain fall and venting correct.
Test before closing
Pressure and drain testing while everything is still accessible. This is the single most important step in the job.
Set the fixture after finishes
Final fixture set once tile, stone and cabinetry are complete, sequenced with the other trades.
Test in use
Fill, drain and check every connection dry, including under the cabinet where a slow weep hides.
Rough in is the only stage that is hard to redo
Everything visible in a bathroom can be changed later at moderate cost. What sits inside the wall cannot. A shower valve set at the wrong depth for the finished surface, or a drain without proper fall, becomes a demolition job once tile is on.
This is why the fixture should be selected before rough in rather than after. The specification drives the positions, and guessing at them is the most common reason a remodel needs a wall reopened.
Pressure balancing is not optional
Shower valves that balance pressure prevent the temperature swing that happens when a toilet is flushed elsewhere in the house. It is a safety feature as much as a comfort one, particularly in households with children or older adults.
When replacing an old shower valve, this is usually the single most worthwhile upgrade in the job.
Hard water and fixture choice
In 17 grain per gallon water, fixtures with accessible, widely available cartridges age better than sealed or proprietary designs, because you will eventually need the part.
Finishes vary in how they handle mineral deposits too. It is worth asking the question before buying rather than discovering it while cleaning.

Do I need a permit?
It depends on the scope and the jurisdiction. Moving drain lines is more likely to need one than swapping a fixture in place, and we will tell you which you are in.
Who goes first, me or the tiler?
Rough in before surfaces, final fixture set after. That sequencing gets agreed up front so trades are not waiting on each other.

Before surfaces go on, and after the fixtures have been selected, because different models need different supply and drain positions.
Can you install an undermount sink?
Yes. The mounting is usually done with the countertop fabricator, and we handle the supply, drain and trap connections.
What is a pressure balancing shower valve?
A valve that keeps shower temperature steady when water is used elsewhere in the house. It is a safety feature and usually the most worthwhile upgrade when replacing an old shower valve.
Do you install bidets?
Yes, including bidet seats that need a supply connection at the toilet, and full fixtures that need their own supply and drain.
